A strategy schools could own
As Director of Digital Transformation at Shaw Education Trust, James worked with school leaders to introduce a 1:1 device strategy across a diverse group of sites. Devices were introduced as each school became ready instead of imposing one timetable regardless of local conditions.
That cooperation made implementation part of educational strategy: leadership, infrastructure, classroom practice, support and adoption moved together.
Inclusive learning by design
The programme used iPad accessibility features to support students with special educational needs, including visual impairments and phonetic learning challenges. Personalisation helped reduce barriers and widened the ways students could participate in learning.
The work made a practical case for rethinking traditional models where technology could create a more effective and inclusive environment—while retaining the judgement of teachers and leaders closest to each site.
